GQ & NBA Court-ture ‘07 NY Fashion Week Fall 2007

FashionLedge.com
Fashion Ledge - NBA Court-ture ‘07 NY Fashion Week Fall 2007
Written by: Sarah Freiseis/ Brigitte Segura

f you’re a man of stature, an NBA fan, or just plain curious… we’ve got an exclusive for you. GQ and NBA teamed up to present the Court-ture ’07 fashion show featuring Jared M. and Rochester Big & Tall Clothing at the NBA store in midtown Manhattan. It’s about time that “Big and Tall” got fashionable. The show included looks from designers such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Burberry, Calvin Klein, Tommy Bahama, and most notably…Jared M. The introduction of the Jared M. line certainly brought this product variety to the next level… affordable luxury clothing. Jared M. has made a name for himself by providing custom clothing in fine quality fabrics.

A little help from the NBA’s very own “Big and Tall” didn’t hurt either. Walt “Clyde” Frazier, Jared Jeffries, Kenny Martin, Antoine Wright, Jimmy Jackson and David Lee sauntered down the runway amongst the male models. Walt Frazier stole the show… who needs to survey the models, NBA, or otherwise when this guy is around…suave and smiling … wearing that trademark hat. His well-known look and demeanor carried a presence that is unmistakable.

So you’re big, and hey, you’re tall… so now what? Traditionally this category of consumer has had little to choose from to create a wardrobe. What we saw here appears to work. Jared M.’s classic tailoring and 1940’s inspired silhouettes create a refined gentleman approach to bringing out the gentle giant in all of us, regardless of size. Sometimes the bigger guys dress a little more modest, but hey big is beautiful…so why not flaunt it. We loved: the silk wool tuxedo jacket, the black trench, a chalk stripe powder blue blazer, the western plaid shirt, a preppy argyle sweater, and the reiteration of the sophisticated color we in the industry refer to as…”sand”. What we still don’t get though is why do some of the clothes look “too big” for the big fellas, for instance baggy sleeves? Word on the street is that show producers allowed the players and models to wear the styles in a manner that suited their own personal style… if that’s true who knows…maybe you should ask Ira, part of the Jared M. sales team… that’s who we heard it from.

So there it is…all you need to have a tremendous following and a fabulous event…GQ, NBA, “Big & Tall” models, hot suits, hip music, and complimentary cocktails. Yes, this may have been more of a social event than a proper runway collection show but we got the point. The “Big & Tall” market is taking a proactive approach to delivering affordable luxury clothing to the retail mass by offering exclusives to designers that take looks straight from the runway and fine-tune them to suit the consumer. The efforts are sure to evolve into pay offs of gigantic proportions for both designers and customers alike. The crowd was filled with more non industry people than not, but what we all understand is this… stand back and be captivated as these fashionable men deserve to be noticed, and there not afraid to stand out in a crowd anymore.

Archetype Showroom Press Preview

Written by Brigitte Segura and Sarah Freiseis

We dropped by Archetype showroom’s press preview of up and coming men's, women's, and accessory designers. The essence of “cool” filled the air as we strolled through an assortment of garments and artistically displayed accessories.

The men's collections took center stage at Archetype. The lines included: Freemont, Surface to Air, Orthodox, Endovanera, and Les Magnifiques. Endovanera caught our eye… it’s the modern man’s answer to occasion dressing. With exceptional tailoring and impeccable attention to detail, the designer gives traditionally classic pieces a little more “rock star” quality. Meanwhile, the effortlessly "hip" Orthodox line pleasantly surprised us. Designer Eric Niccoli describes the line as “a synthesis between street and civility.” We dub Orthodox the official home of the manfer! That’s right, the manfer… the menswear take on the two-fer. It’s a V-neck cashmere blend sweaterknit with a sewn in woven collar. How many times do we girls fix a guy’s collar? Now we can use our time to find the right guy to fit the collar… and hmm… the knit henleys are definitely yummy. We especially loved the designer’s technique in achieving the all-over printed tees. Orthodox is the perfect blend of cool and clean with a sophisticated edge. It’s everything we wish the modern man would be.

As for the girls: another season, another collection, but ever present is that strong statement of silk charmeuse…solid, color blocked, printed… you name it. Secrets of Charm, H. Fredriksson, Freemont, and Les Magnifiques were among the collections we took a peek at. Freemont reminds us to be flirty with a surplice tunic. At H. Fredriksson we enjoyed the chic simplicity of the silk dresses as well as the feminine touches on the jackets. Les Magnifiques had super-soft racerback tunics with artsy graphics in washed down tones. We want every color combo! And how clever is the 80/20 shoe line? Since these boots were made for walkin’, why not walk a little taller. No one’s going to notice you’re cheating with a sneaky wedge in your casual “flat” boots. A couple of extra inches and an array of colors to choose from, there’s sure to be something to get you lifted!

As we looked through the jewelry lines of Surface to Air, Pretty Little Things, Digby & Iona, Dirty Librarian, and Arms and Armory, we couldn’t help but feel the romantic vibe. Surface to Air’s dark motifs turn modern as the French influence exudes in the smooth chic lines, giving a modern unisex appeal. We’re fans of the fellas, fans of the unisex, but mostly we’re fans of “Dirty Librarian.” This line has an assortment multi-chain looks. The enameled styles came in a batch of fantastic colors, particularly the “blue of the season.” The line provokes a casual kind of sexy with a sassy new renaissance approach, and there is nothing dirty about that! The wishbone and scull pendants at Arms and Armory are the perfect gift for guys…the kind of gift we girls "borrow" every chance we get. And that’s hot!

Eddie Bauer Fall 2007

FashionLedge.com

Written by Brigitte Segura and Sarah Freiseis

Get ready for the new Eddie…and the modern approach to “outdoor dressing.” Think quality pieces - - same tried and true, but not tired, it’s true. Fall 2007 is practical, comfortable (yet presentable) and now more chic!

And the Eddie Bauer woman knows what makes her look and feel good. She keeps it simple from everyday clothing to casual office attire and weekend wear. She’s “got it” together…hip enough…without all the fuss…and the right amount of details.

Mix and match pieces create a versatile wardrobe. The Eddie Bauer collection is great for layering. We loved the packable down filled jacket - - surprisingly stylish ‘down chic’. And, incase you’re actually active, the collection uses performance fabrics that have got you covered. For that finishing touch: hats, scarves, and amazing bags! Eddie makes it easy to accessorize on your way “out”.

It’s the same old Eddie Bauer…just better, newer…and fresh with the colors… and the times…

Replay
By Brigitte Segura and Sarah Freiseis

It’s getting “eco-friendly” all over. Replay kicked-off their limited edition organic blue jeans with a Soho celebration, which was sexy and playful - - these Italians sure know how to party! The crowd mingled merrily in the scene…nearly naked ivy-clad models posed in their organic blues for an onsite photo shoot while DJ Cassidy was spinning. Run (Run DMC), Mario Cantone (Sex and the City), Rachel Leigh Cook, and Summer Rayne Oakes dropped by lending some “eco-support.”

Replay combines organic with authentic, using entirely natural processes creating the “look” of the jean by using “worn-in” pieces from their archives as a canvas for development. Replay’s take on eco-friendly is all inclusive even down to the packaging. The jeans are wrapped in recycled paper and will be sold in Replay stores throughout the world as a limited edition collector’s series for this season, bringing an Italian twist to “eco-awareness.”

There’s no funny business going on here…it’s the real deal. The denim, thread and pocket lining are all “certified organic” cotton. Every detail has been thought of: hand made leather buttons attached with twine; thread bar tacks replacing all the hardware. The jeans are treated with abrasive stones, washed with “savon de Marseille,” then rinsed in an infusion of flowers and essential oils giving the jeans a true worn-in look.

We are all about those special touches…that organic touch…with an Italian hand...and yes…We 2 are Replay

Out of the dreary down-pour of a grey “New York” Sunday, swept into the crisp brightness of Splashlight Studios… and gracefully ushered to our places…we felt as though we had arrived at the garden party!
Melissa Sweet understands a modern bride’s needs…with no compromise to wedding traditions…this bride’s wedding is her most memorable event.
…Gleaming with luminous natural charm and dazzling smiles, the brides went down the aisle…the designer uses luxurious taffetas, French laces and English netting…mixing old charm with delicate accents. Flirty bows, covered buttons, innocent ruffles, and crinkled silks in luminous colours bring out the “belle”… in all of us…
This dressmaker perfectly drapes and manipulates, tucks and sculpts, adding sashes and whimsical bows carefully “placed” on dresses…the fluid styles were some of our some favorites…fresh and understated…
